Football never sleeps. During any of the 86400 seconds in a 24-hour day, somewhere in the world someone is doing something related to the beautiful game, whether that's scoring a last-minute winner in a high-profile match, posting their expert take on social media or simply booting a ball against a wall with their mates.

It's therefore impossible for any human being to keep up with everything that's going on in the game, and it's often those little yet most intriguing moments, like a fan's alternative viewpoint of a penalty save, or a three-second yet incredibly telling interaction between two arch-rivals, or thread on X explaining why N'Golo Kante is the nicest man in professional sport, which make football so great.

GIVEMESPORT have created our live blog to help solve that problem, providing the best social media has to offer and the greatest football mini-stories from the last 24 hours.

September 3: Gianluigi Buffon 'Speechless' as 13-Year-Old Goalkeeper Hospitalised by Parent

Legendary Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has reacted with shock after a 13-year-old goalkeeper was attacked and hospitalised by a parent during a youth football game. The incident occurred during the Super Oscar youth tournament in Collegno, near Turin, when the father of an opponent hit the youngster, who was playing for GSD Volpiano Pianese.

The child has since been discharged but was hospitalised with a fractured malleolus, a bruised cheekbone, and head trauma after being punched at the end of the match against CSF Carmagnola. Speaking on the shocking events, Buffon said:

"I'm speechless... Literally stunned by what happened. Indeed, above all, disoriented, because the behaviors that are now too often repeated on or around the football pitches invite much deeper reflection than instinctive and normal outrage. We must do something truly powerful and strong, something that restores reason, respect, and humanity to the center of our lives. These barbaric and inhumane acts have deep roots in unease, a lack of education, and a total lack of self-control.

He then added: "I don't know what the cure is, but we cannot helplessly accept such a profound cultural, social, and behavioral decline. That said, I want to send a huge hug and best wishes for a speedy recovery to my colleague, the goalkeeper, advising him to respond to violence with forgiveness, because only with such counter-trend choices can we attempt to eradicate such brutality and create a better world and environment."

September 1: Arsenal vs Liverpool Clip Highlights Difference Between Martinelli and Eze

Arsenal were unable to come away with anything as they lost 1-0 against rivals Liverpool at Anfield over the weekend. It was a game of few opportunities for either team, but the Gunners could have perhaps made more of an impression in attack had new signing Eberechi Eze been used off the bench a little sooner.

Mikel Arteta went with Gabriel Martinelli from the start, but the Brazilian had a frustrating afternoon, failing to carve out any real opportunities for either himself or any teammates. He was replaced by Eze in the 70th minute, with the Englishman looking for more lively.

One clip in particular sums up the difference in confidence between the pair as Eze delightfully skipped past Dominik Szoboszlai, while Martinelli was thwarted by the makeshift right-back.

August 31: Joao Neves Scores Incredible Hat-Trick For PSG

Paris Saint-Germain continued their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season with their third win in as many games, beating Toulouse 6-3 in a thrilling encounter. The star of the show was very much Joao Neves.

Indeed, the central midfielder bagged not one, not two, but three goals as he went home with the match ball. It's rare enough for a non-forward to score a hat-trick in football, but the quality of his three strikes was also eye-catching.

Incredibly, Neves bagged two bicycle kicks, as well as blasting home a thunderous top corner strike from distance to seal his hat-trick. As such, fans online have been blown away by the collection of goals.

One wrote: "This is the greatest hat-trick in the history of footy. 2x bicycle kicks 1x outside the box banger JoĂŁo Neves, you are a phenomenon." Another said: JoĂŁo Neves has just scored one of the greatest hat-trick in Ligue 1 history. A third added: "Joao Neves has just scored the best hat-trick of all time as a midfielder."

August 30: Alejandro Garnacho Slammed During Chelsea vs Fulham

It appears as though new Chelsea signing Alejandro Garnacho hasn't made the best impression after he was spotted on his phone during his club's Premier League derby vs Fulham. Having just completed his move from Manchester United, this was the winger's first time at Stamford Bridge as a Blues player as he watched the 2-0 home win from the stands.

Not long in the game, the cameras panned to Garnacho in the crowd, but he seemed distracted as he fiddled with his phone. This has immediately annoyed some fans online. YouTuber Mark Goldbridge used it as the opportunity to make it clear how glad the Argentine has now left Old Trafford, saying: "Chelsea game on in front of him and he's sat tapping on his phone. So glad Garnacho is gone."

Fans felt similarly, writing: "He’s always pressing phone, boy can’t stay off social media as a professional footballer." Another said: "First view of Garnacho and he’s on his phone and not watching the match."

A third remarked: "This guy already making me angry scrolling on his phone instead of watching the game." While a final support summed up the mood, writing: "Garnacho has just signed for Chelsea and he’s sitting on the bench looking at his phone. Not even watching the game which shows you everything you need to know about his attitude. If I was a manager I wouldn’t allow players to have their phones with them while the game is on."

August 30: Jamie Carragher Immediately Slams VAR After Controversial Chelsea vs Fulham Decision

Chelsea were second best in the first half of their West London derby against Fulham on Saturday, a fact underlined when 18-year-old Josh King waltzed through their defence to open the scoring. Fortunately for the Blues, VAR and referee Rob Jones appeared just as lackadaisical.

The goal was eventually chalked off after Jones checked the pitchside monitor no fewer than 12 times before ruling that Rodrigo Muniz’s “careless challenge” in the build-up was enough to disallow it. It’s not the first time VAR has tilted things Chelsea’s way against a London rival either - Crystal Palace suffered a similar fate on the opening weekend.

Some are calling it one of the worst VAR interventions yet. Jamie Carragher was quick to voice his frustration on X, writing: “VAR has had a shocking start to the season.” It’s hard to disagree with the former Liverpool defender—what exactly was Muniz supposed to do with his foot in that situation?

August 27: Dominic Calvert-Lewin Speaks Out After Poor Leeds United Debut

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, following his move from Everton to Leeds United this summer, has spoken out after missing a penalty in his debut for the Elland Road outfit. Daniel Farke’s side lost to Sheffid Wednesday on penalties on Tuesday evening – and it was no thanks to the Englishman, who struggled to shine.

Taking to social media after, he said: “Very proud to make my debut for this great club tonight but also disappointed with how it went. I came here to give everything and that’s what I will continue to do. Can’t want to see you all at Elland Road.”

Calvert-Lewin replaced Lukas Nmecha in the 58th minute as Farke’s men were chasing a winner in regulation time, but he flattered to deceive. In second-half stoppage time, he missed from point-blank range (see above!) to win the game. His penalty was perhaps the low point of his debut as he skied his effort over the bar.

August 25: Jamie Carragher's Incredible Celebration after Liverpool's Late Winner vs Newcastle

Jamie Carragher's reaction to Rio Ngumoha's 100th-minute winner for Liverpool against Newcastle has been shared on social media, in a piece of hilarious content. Arne Slot's Reds were largely outplayed throughout the 90 minutes against the Magpies, despite the fact Anthony Gordon was sent off before half-time.

Sixteen-year-old Ngumoha came off the bench just three days before turning 17 and scored a dramatic winner against the run of play to make it two wins from two for the defending champions. After the game, Carragher suggested it was arguably the biggest example in Premier League history where the best team lost — but despite that view, he didn't hold back with his celebrations.

Footage was shown on Monday Night Football and later posted online of the former Liverpool defender sprinting across the Sky Studios in celebration, as the emotion of the last-gasp winner was plain to see.

August 25: Jamie Carragher Reacts to Arne Slot Watching His Analysis

Jamie Carragher produced a hilarious reaction after finding out that Arne Slot was watching his analysis of the Liverpool side chosen to face Newcastle on Monday Night Football. The Reds are looking to make it two wins from two in the Premier League, having beaten Bournemouth on the opening day.

Slot has made some changes to the side that won against the Cherries, with Dominik Szoboszlai's move to right-back a key talking point. However, Carragher was focused on the fact he believed his former club needed attacking reinforcements, and stated that opinion unaware that Slot was listening to every word.

When the cameras cut to the Dutchman, Carragher could be seen saying "oh no," before bursting into laughter. Slot would then go on to say, "Who am I to argue with Jamie's opinion?" as can be seen in the footage above.

August 24: Bruno Fernandes Produces Terrible Penalty in Man Utd vs Fulham

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes will certainly not want to watch his missed penalty against Fulham back, will he? Ruben Amorim’s men started well against the Cottagers – but, in the opening 36 minutes or so, they struggled (once again) to make anything of their chances in the final third.

Calvin Bassey of Fulham wrestled Mason Mount to the ground and Chris Kavanagh initially waved off any protests from those in red. A closer look at the incident on the pitchside monitor and the penalty was given. Fernandes stepped up.

It took the Portuguese a while to settle after being bumped into by Kavanagh – and the effort to follow was the worst of the Premier League thus far. Typically composed from 12 yards out, he blazed his spot kick, to the cheers of the home contingent, over the bar. The last time Fernandes missed a penalty for Manchester United was against Chelsea in December 2023.

August 24: Reporter Mistakes Werder Bremen Captain For Frankfurt Player After Defeat

Sky Sports Germany presenter Katharina Kleinfeldt had a moment to forget live on air this weekend as she spoke to Werder Bremen captain Marco Friedl after his team's Bundesliga loss to Eintracht Frankfurt. Friedl's side had just been thumped 4-1 away from home, so the Austrian was understandably dejected at full-time.

Even so, he had swapped shirts with his former colleague Michael Zetterer after the full-time whistle. This, however, led to a rather embarrassing mix-up with Kleinfeldt consequently confusing him for a Frankfurt player.

Indeed, she asked Friedl what he thought about the victory. Somewhat baffled, he broke into an awkward smile before replying: "I'm a Werder Bremen player in case you don't know."

The Sky Sports presenter was extremely apologetic, saying: "That's my fault. Sorry," Friedl took it in good spirits as they both shook hands, and Kleinfeldt added. "We'll start again from the beginning."

Friedl later remarked, "I've never experienced that before. I had a chat with the woman here 90 minutes before the game because it was urgently needed or extremely important to have the media in the dressing room before the game." He added that it was "curious" and "a bit ridiculous" that she no longer recognised him after the game.

August 23: Man City's Trafford Produces Howler to Give Spurs 2-0 Lead

Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford had a moment to forget on his Premier League debut at home against Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur. After managing to avoid being sent off after colliding with Mohammed Kudus on the edge of his box, his error led to Spurs’ second of the afternoon just moments later.

At a goal-kick, the Englishman opted against going long and instead tried to pick out Nico Gonzalez, who was being closed down by the aforementioned Kudus. The midfielder, as a result, lost the ball and Trafford scrambled from his goal line to rectify his earlier gaffe – and it looked as if he did by getting a hand on the ball.

That wasn’t enough, however, as the ball landed in the path of Joao Palhinha. Without a second though, the Bayern Munich loanee fired the ball home to make it 2-0 on the stroke of half-time. Even worse, the ball ricocheted off the young shot-stopper on the way through. He won’t want to watch it back, that’s for sure.

August 16: Newcastle Fans Make Alexander Isak Feelings Clear After Villa Park Draw

They aren't happy with the wantaway forward

Alexander Isak remains the biggest talking point at Newcastle United, even after Eddie Howe's men opened their Premier League campaign with a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa. The Magpies failed to take advantage of an Ezri Konsa red card, as the lack of a centre-forward was made evident.

Following the final whistle, the travelling supporters made their feelings clear towards Isak, who has his heart set on a move to English champions Liverpool. Per Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, the Geordies in attendance at Villa Park chanted: "There's only one greedy b******," repeatedly, with the message seemingly being directed towards the Swedish forward.
