The Qur’an tells us that Allah sent many prophets throughout history to guide mankind. Their mission was always the same: to call people to worship Allah alone, without associating partners with Him, and to live righteous lives.
Allah says in the Quran:
"And We certainly sent into every nation a messenger, [saying], ‘Worship Allah and avoid false gods.’" (Qur’an 16:36)
The Qur’an mentions the names of 25 prophets.
But in a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said that there were 124,000 prophets in total, though most of them are not mentioned in the Quran.
The Prophets Mentioned in the Qur’an are:
1. Ādam (Adam)
2. Idrīs (Enoch)
3. Nūḥ (Noah)
4. Hūd
5. Ṣāliḥ
6. Ibrāhīm (Abraham)
7. Lūṭ (Lot)
8. Ismā‘īl (Ishmael)
9. Isḥāq (Isaac)
10. Ya‘qūb (Jacob)
11. Yūsuf (Joseph)
12. Shu‘ayb (Jethro)
13. Ayyūb (Job)
14. Dhūl-Kifl (possibly Ezekiel, scholars differ)
15. Mūsā (Moses)
16. Hārūn (Aaron)
17. Dāwūd (David)
18. Sulaymān (Solomon)
19. Ilyās (Elijah)
20. Al-Yasa‘ (Elisha)
21. Yūnus (Jonah)
22. Zakariyyā (Zechariah)
23. Yaḥyā (John the B
aptist)
24. ʿĪsā (Jesus)
25. Muḥammad ﷺ – the final messenger.
The above are the 25 prophets mentioned in the holy Quran.
📖 Allah says:
"And We sent messengers about whom We have related their stories to you before, and messengers about whom We have not related to you." (Qur’an 40:78)
