Tawheed (Oneness of Allah) comes from the Arabic word wahhada meaning "to make one" or "to unify."
In Islam, it means affirming the Oneness of Allah in His Lordship, His right to be worshipped, and His Names and Attributes.
Tawheed is the foundation of Islam and the first part of the Shahadah:
“La ilaha illa Allah” – There is no god worthy of worship except Allah.
Types of Tawheed
1. Tawheed ar-Ruboobiyyah (Oneness of Lordship)
Believing that Allah alone is the Creator, Sustainer, and Controller of the universe.
Example: Allah sends the rain, gives life, and causes death.
2. Tawheed al-Uloohiyyah (Oneness of Worship)
Directing all acts of worship (prayer, fasting, du’a, sacrifice) to Allah alone.
Example: A Muslim prays only to Allah, not to saints, graves, or idols.
3. Tawheed al-Asma wa-Sifaat (Oneness of Allah’s Names and Attributes)
Believing in Allah’s Names and Attributes as He described Himself in the Qur’an and Sunnah, without distortion, denial, or comparing Him to His creation.
Example: Allah is Ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful), and His mercy is unlike any human mercy.
💡 Importance of Tawheed
The core message of all prophets was Tawheed.
Without Tawheed, deeds are not accepted.
It brings peace to the heart, knowing that Allah alone controls everything.
It is the key to entering Jannah.
