Ancelotti leaves Vinicius Jr OUT of Brazil preliminary squad
Brazil submitted their preliminary squad list to FIFA for the South American Qualifiers in September. Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior has been excluded by tactical decision from Carlo Ancelotti, who will allow the player rest during the international break.
Carlo Ancelotti has decided to leave Vinicius Jr off the preliminary squad for the Brazilian national team. Consequently, the Real Madrid winger will be unavailable for the first international break of the 2025-26 season, during which 'Canarinha' face a double-header in the South American Qualifiers against Chile (4th September) and Bolivia (9th September).
The reasons behind the Italian's decision to exclude the Madrid player are justified. Firstly, 'Vini' accumulated his third yellow card in the last match against Paraguay (a 1-0 victory), meaning he will have to serve a suspension against 'La Roja'. Furthermore, the CBF has agreed that for the second fixture against Bolivia in La Paz, no players from European clubs will be involved.
Therefore, there was no reason to call up Vinicius Jr, who will instead have time to rest during the break, which will take place during the first two weeks of September. The Brazilian's next fixture will be against Mallorca on August 30th, and he will not play again until the Real Sociedad vs. Real Madrid match, scheduled for the weekend of September 14th.
However, two other players from the Spanish giants have been included in Ancelotti's preliminary call-up, with the definitive list due on August 25th. These are Rodrygo Goes and Eder Militao, both of whom missed the last international break through injury. The centre-back could make his return for 'La Verdeamarela' after a year. His last appearance was on July 7th, 2024, in the Copa America semi-final elimination against Uruguay on penalties. In November, the Sao Paulo native suffered his second ACL tear.
