The Stories of the 25 Prophets Mentioned in the Quran (Part 5)

Introduction

Throughout history, Allah (SWT) sent prophets to every nation with one message: Worship Allah alone and follow His guidance. Their stories are preserved in the Quran to strengthen our faith, teach us patience, and remind us of Allah's mercy and justice.

In the previous four parts, we learned about twenty prophets and the valuable lessons from their lives. In this final article, we conclude the series with five of the most well-known prophets in Islam, ending with the life and mission of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), the Seal of the Prophets.

5. Prophet Yunus (Jonah) (AS) – Hope in Allah's Mercy

Prophet Yunus (AS) was sent to the people of Nineveh, urging them to worship Allah alone. For a long time, they rejected his message.

Feeling discouraged, Yunus (AS) left his people before Allah had commanded him to do so. During his journey by sea, a violent storm arose, and he was thrown overboard. By Allah's will, a great fish swallowed him.

Inside the darkness of the fish, Yunus (AS) sincerely repented and made the famous dua:

"There is no deity except You. Glory be to You! Indeed, I was among the wrongdoers."

(Quran 21:87)

Allah accepted his repentance and commanded the fish to release him safely. When Yunus returned to his people, they believed and were forgiven by Allah.

Lessons from Yunus (AS)

Never lose hope in Allah's mercy.

Sincere repentance is always accepted.

Patience is essential when calling others to the truth.

4. Prophet Zakariyya (Zechariah) (AS) – The Power of Dua

Prophet Zakariyya (AS) was a righteous servant of Allah who spent his life calling people to worship Him.

Although he and his wife had grown old and had no children, Zakariyya never stopped making dua. He prayed for a righteous son who would continue spreading Allah's message.

Allah answered his sincere prayer by blessing him with Prophet Yahya (AS), even though it seemed impossible according to human expectations.

His story reminds believers that Allah hears every sincere prayer.

Lessons from Zakariyya (AS)

Never stop making dua.

Nothing is impossible for Allah.

Trust Allah's timing.

3. Prophet Yahya (John) (AS) – A Life of Purity

Prophet Yahya (AS), the son of Zakariyya (AS), was blessed with wisdom from a young age.

The Quran describes him as kind, humble, pure, and devoted to Allah. He encouraged people to repent and live righteous lives.

Yahya (AS) remained firm upon the truth, even when it brought hardship.

His life serves as an example of sincerity, humility, and unwavering faith.

Lessons from Yahya (AS)

Live with humility.

Remain committed to the truth.

Purity of heart is beloved to Allah.

2. Prophet Isa (Jesus) (AS) – A Noble Messenger

Prophet Isa (AS) is one of the greatest prophets in Islam. Muslims believe he was born miraculously to Maryam (Mary) without a father, by Allah's command.

Allah gave Isa (AS) many miracles. By Allah's permission, he healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and raised the dead. These miracles were signs of Allah's power, not proof of divinity.

The Quran teaches that Isa (AS) called people to worship Allah alone. Muslims believe that he was neither crucified nor killed, but that Allah raised him to Himself. Before the Day of Judgment, Isa (AS) will return by Allah's permission.

Lessons from Isa (AS)

Miracles come only by Allah's permission.

Worship belongs to Allah alone.

Always follow the truth revealed by Allah.

1. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) – The Final Messenger

Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) was born in Makkah around the year 570 CE. At the age of forty, Allah revealed the Quran to him through Angel Jibril (Gabriel).

For twenty-three years, the Prophet (ﷺ) patiently called people to worship Allah alone. He endured persecution, hardship, and opposition but never abandoned his mission.

Through his teachings and example, Islam spread across Arabia and later throughout the world. His character was described in the Quran as one of outstanding moral excellence.

The Prophet (ﷺ) taught Muslims how to worship Allah, care for others, seek knowledge, show mercy, and live with honesty and justice.

Muslims believe that Muhammad (ﷺ) is the Seal of the Prophets, meaning no prophet will come after him.

Lessons from Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

Show mercy to all people.

Be honest and trustworthy.

Seek knowledge throughout life.

Worship Allah sincerely.

Follow the Quran and the authentic Sunnah.

Conclusion

The stories of the 25 prophets mentioned in the Quran remind us that although they lived in different times and places, they all carried the same message: Worship Allah alone and live according to His guidance.

From the repentance of Yunus (AS), the sincere dua of Zakariyya (AS), the purity of Yahya (AS), the miracles of Isa (AS), and the complete guidance brought by Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ), every story strengthens our faith and teaches timeless lessons.

May Allah help us learn from the lives of His prophets, increase us in knowledge, and guide us to follow the Quran and the authentic Sunnah. Ameen.
